There are two major universities in the Miami area. Florida International University and the University of Miami. UM is by far more expensive because it is a private university.
Miami is indeed very expensive to live, and your expenses are based on what you currently have. Do you have credit cards with outstanding balances? Do you make car payments?
Look at the tuition rates of the universities. Also, a lot of the students at UM are international students from Latin America and they are the rich kids from Chile and Colombia.
Hopefully, you have some scholarships.

You cannot live in the dorms. Dorms are more expensive than renting at both UM and FIU. They tell you its not but you will quickly see it is.
You can rent an efficiency for about $550 or split the bill with someone in two bedroom. A one bedroom you can find for about $650-800 a month. So yea, its a pricey city. But its depends where you want to live. If you live in a crappier area=cheaper, nicest areas can run up to $1,300, but that’s like super posh nyc style, which I’m sure you will not be living in.
You don’t need lots of money to party. One places are ladies are free or free drinks for girls at bars/clubs. But yea, you need money for movies, concerts-depends how much you will go out while you are in school. The beach is free. Parks are free. Blockbuster movie rentals are the same everywhere. If you don’t have that much money, you can take out loans, work while in school. Good luck!
